Q: How do I load a movie or a video?

A: Your portal allows you to play your video or movie through YouTube. So you first have to load your movie on YouTube.

Then on the page on which you wish to play the movie: Add an application, under Content Management there is an option  labelled Flash. Drag and drop the application onto your page. You will now be requested to configure the portlet. If you select configure and just save it as is you would have saved a demo liferay video. (in the url block). Replace the liefray url with the url of your own video on YouTube and save.

Q: In Liferay v5 there is no longer Journal Content. What do I select now?

A: Journal Content has been replaced with Web Content.

Q: Are there any differences between Journal Content and Web Content?

A: There basic actions are still the same, however with Web Content when replacing the words 'Web Content' in the top left hand corner you have to select 'Use Custom Title' and save the new title otherwise the new title will not stick and you will just see the words Web Content.

Q: Is there anyway I can remove/change the headings: Journal Content & Site Map?

A: Yes there is. On the top line of the journal box click on the paint palette, then untick the border to remove the heading otherwise replace the text " Journal Content" with your own text (just click on the words Journal content and the block will open for you to edit)..

Q: Am I able to add different fonts to my site or are the fonts available the only ones that can be used?

A: The system only comes with a few basic fonts, but if you want to maintain a font it is best to convert it into a .jpg.
BUT You have to remember that you are busy with a browser and every browser interprets the fonts to the best of its abilities. For eg. You may type something in Comic Sans, but if my browser does not have that font then it will appear in the next best font. The only way for a browser to maintain a particular font is if it is a jpg; gif, png etc. (In other words an image).

Q: Can I  have a link on a page "Back to the Top"?

A: Copy the url address from your browser, then type the words 'back to the top' Highlight it and add a link. Paste the url in the link box and it will take you back to the top.

Q: During the trial on the portal I did something wrong and now the portal has a strange look. How do I fix it?

A:you have not broken the page - you have merely changed the skin that is why it looks different. Welcome > manage pages>look and Feel. Select a new theme. Some skins or themes allows you to automatically change the languag eof your portal. At the bottom of the page you will see a row of flags. When you click on a flag of your choice it automatically changes the language of your portal ( So the instructions eg Search, add page, navigate etc will all be in that new language now).

Q:I notice the width of the page of my web site is too large for some PC screens.  Is there something to do to fix it?

A: This is not something you can 'fix'. You will occasionally see a message on some sites
like this "this site is best viewed in 1024X768 ..."
like in the site below in their footer:
http://www.projectliteracy.org.za/Training%20Services.asp

Some times they also specify a best browser (since it may look different on different browsers). Also you will find that fonts substitution is not accurate. not all systems have the same fonts.

Colour rendering is also slightly different on all systems. You will notice a dramatic difference between LCD and CRT monitors for instance.

All of these quirks are part of the of web interfaces and cannot really be 'fixed'.

Some sites used to have different sites for different resolutions (this practice is now very rare, because it is a lot of work) Although some people have a special low graphics high text site for WAP (i.e. cell phones) because of the size of their screens and the limited bandwidth. This is because their primary customers are cellphone users.

We see the whole page just fine, but we run at our desktops at 1024X768 or higher. although we don't use IE but rather firefox.

So a message of the recommended resolution is about all you can do.

Q: Can I change the background colour of my pages?

A:The background colour depends on the theme or the skin that you choose.  However If you change the theme your layout is affected.
